A native of the Gold Coast and an Old Boy of The Southport School, Jonathan Nyst attained his Bachelor of Laws degree from the Griffith University in 2014, and was admitted to practice as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of Queensland in 2015. He has a wealth of experience at all levels in the conduct of criminal and commercial litigation in all Queensland courts, as well as criminal litigation in the Local and District courts of New South Wales, and major consumer Law litigation in the Federal Court of Australia. He also has vast experience appearing in various tribunal hearings before bodies such as the CCC, ASIC, and ACIC, in Queensland, NSW and Victoria. In 2022, Jonathan was nationally recognised by Lawyers Weekly as Australia’s leading young criminal lawyer. In 2023 he was appointed to the Queensland Law Society’s Future Leaders Committee.   

Jonathan is also an award-winning songwriter and musician and provides entertainment law advice to the music industry in Queensland. Since 2016, he has served as a volunteer lawyer providing pro bono guidance and advice to the Griffith University Innocence Project.

At present, there is no statute law in Australia that provides a right of publicity. However, that doesn’t mean one can invariably use the likeness or image of another without permission or compensation.
In a time of rising construction costs, plummeting home building activity and increasing demand, the Housing Availability and Affordability (Planning and Other Legislation Amendment) Act 2024 was passed through Parliament in April 2024, amending the Planning Act 2016 to hopefully streamline and facilitate affordable residential development throughout the state.
